The navy had taught him many things, but today he just wanted to forget it all. The discipline and the bravery couldn’t bring his father back and now he was all alone. Noah hated to admit his fear, his dad had always been his rock and now that the Colonel was gone Noah was frightened. Walking back into the house that he shared with his father the memories that hit him squarely in the gut, he wasn’t ready for this it just hurt too much. He had to get back to the base his duty wasn’t over yet and he needed to escape the harsh reality that he was alone. Closing up the house and walking to the car Noah was so focused on leaving that he hadn’t noticed the blonde man standing on the porch across the street until his actually on the street.
“Um, I’m sorry to bother you, but are you Noah?” The blonde walked down the few steps and crossed the street to Noah’s car.
“Yeah I am. I’m sorry but do I know you?” Noah looked at the young man and felt his heart rate pick up. It had been a long two year tour in the pacific and Noah hadn’t been in a serious relationship in over two years.
“No, you don’t. I moved in about six months after you shipped out for your last tour, I just wanted to say that your dad was an amazing man. We became really close over the last year.” Noah wasn’t prepared for the tears that had formed in his new neighbor’s eyes. “I just wanted to tell you that he meant a lot to me when I had nobody.”
“Thank you, that means a lot to know that he has someone, while I wasn’t here.”
Luke looked at Noah and could see the pain and guilt eating him away. Luke wanted to erase that pain from his beautiful face. In the year and a half that Luke had known the Colonel, Luke had realized that he was falling for his deployed son and that had suited the Colonel just fine. Luke’s past was something that he didn’t like talking about his family was scattered all over after his parent’s very messy divorce. “Well I’ll let you get going I just want to introduce myself and tell you that if you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to come on over.” Look loved how Noah’s eyes sparkled it was mesmerizing and a bit distracting.
Noah watched Luke as he walked back to his house. he felt like he had literally been hit. Luke was beautiful with big brown eyes that pierced his soul. Shaking his head Noah got in his car and turned it on , with one last look at Luke's house, Noah pulled from the curb leaving the sad feelings behind... at leat for now.
