"That's it? We're over?" whispered Noah, barely able to hold back the tears.
A just as tearful Luke looked back at him and nodded, "Yeah."
Noah stared at Luke, bewildered and heartbroken. But, deep down, he knew it was his own fault. He had pushed away Luke over and over during his blindness and now Luke had moved on and fallen in love with someone else. He knew that it was over.
The former lovers gave each other a quick goodbye hug. Luke quickly fled the house in tears.
Later that evening, Luke found himself knocking on the door to Reid's apartment. Reid answered the door. Reid looked a little surprised and a little frightened to see him looking so upset.
"Hey, Luke. What's going on?" asked Reid.
"Can I talk to you? It's really important," said Luke.
"Sure." Reid stepped back to allow Luke to enter the apartment. Luke walked in and turned and faced Reid.
"I love you," said Luke unexpectedly.
"What?" said a surprised Reid.
"I love you. Um...it's over with Noah. I told him how I felt about you. He wanted to come back and I just wouldn't let him. He's already tugged me around too much. I just can't deal with it anymore," said Luke, "I love you. I think I fell in love with you when I saw your grief and guilt over Annie Judd. You felt so horrible even though you knew it wasn't your fault. I love you."
A stunned and suddenly tearful Reid smiled warmly at Luke. "I think that was when I fell in love with you too," he said.
Suddenly, the two men were in each other's arms, holding eachother, caressing eachother, the love just flowing over.
Noah didn't know how to handle this. He loved Luke very much and missed him terribly but he knew that it was over. It was time for him to move on.
About three weeks later, something amazing happened. Noah's film got picked up by a documentary channel. They loved it and wanted to show it on a special primetime network about the college world. Noah immediately agreed and almost fainted when he saw how much money the network was going to pay him.
The first person that Noah wanted to call with the news was Luke. He even opened up his cellphone and dialed the number but stopped when he realized what he was doing. The number he called instead was Maddie's. Maddie was delighted with the news and wished him well.
As soon as Noah hung up the phone, it rang again. He answered it.
"Hello?" said Noah.
"Hello? Is this Noah Mayer?" asked a male voice.
"Mr. Mayer, this is Wes Charlotte. I am a small town film director. I am working on an independent film called Powers That Be. I recently saw your documentary and I loved it. I was wondering if you would be interested in working on the film with me," said Wes.
A shocked Noah almost dropped the phone. He stuttered for a couple of minutes before he could say anything.
"Um, how do I know you're a legit person? I mean--"
"I know what you mean. Just Google my name. You'll see," said Wes.
"Anyone can creat fake web pages and stuff," said Noah defensively.
"All right. If you still don't believe me, just contact David Quinn, the dean of your film school. He knows who I am," said Wes.
"I think I'll do that," said Noah.
"Just let me know what you decide," said Wes calmly. Then, the line went dead.
