Sinking further into an icy emptiness
of cold nothing.
Frozen heart and tears in darkness.
Eyes wide, yet not seeing.
Left you for the sun and warmth
of bluer waters; sparkling seas.
His life for yours, seems like.
Yet you pushed him away. Your fault.
To plead; to voice your grief
and let him see your hurt, self-inflicted.
To let him take your pain upon himself,
as you’re sure he would.
You pulled away when he
needed you; never saw you leaving.
Thought only of yourself as
greener pastures lured you on.
You pay the price, sinking ever
deeper; farther into darkness and despair.
Nothing to cling to, grasp hold of. Nothing
to halt the spiral of descent into oblivion.
Sunlight prickles the edge of awareness,
dappled warmth drawing you upwards.
Fingers of light play across your vision,
looking forwards for the first time in so long.
Striving for the sunlight, your gasp of breath,
of life, captured by his own,
You break the surface, warm for the first
time in what feels like…
