Being Blunt

Story Notes:
Should be writing my BB but I'm feeling melancholy and the fandom feels a little fractured to me right now. I also wanted to show the Reid I would have loved to have seen.
Reid walked along, exhausted, frustrated and wanting nothing more than a huge sandwich and a gallon of coffee from Al’s and then his barely comfortable bed.

As he rounded the corner, he looked up to see Luke standing and gazing in the window of the very diner Reid was heading for. It didn’t take a genius (but he was one) to figure what…or who he was looking at.

Reid sighed and scrubbed his fingers through his hair. Those two young men were totally fucking clueless. At first screwing with them had been kind of fun. Reid would admit…if only to himself…that he was a little bitter and jaded when it came to love.

Okay, a lot.

But these two were so in love with each other that he was starting to feel like a jerk for messing around with them. Both men were so busy punishing themselves for their mistakes that they had no idea how much they were punishing each other.

Reid walked up behind Luke so quietly that the younger man didn’t even realize he was there. Looking in the window, Reid saw Noah sitting at a table with a handsome, dark-haired man…Reid was pretty sure his name was Richard…and Luke was standing there and might as well have been bleeding broken hearts out of his eyes like some stupid cartoon character.

“Luke, when did you take up stalking? Is it a new sport for you?” Reid really didn’t mean to sound like such an ass, but he was tired, damn it!

The other man whirled around, gaping at Reid in shock before starting to stutter. “I’m not...I mean, I just…I can’t…” He trailed off, unable to tell the truth but unwilling to actually lie either.

Reid smirked at Luke. “Give it up Luke. I know you can’t help it.” He looked at the two men in the window for a second before looking into those captivating hazel eyes. If only he’d met Luke before Luke had met Noah.

“You love the big idiot so why not go in there and just tell him? Tell him you can wait for him to get all the crap in his head figured out but that you’re not giving up on him. It would be so easy.” Nothing wrong with being blunt as far as Reid was concerned, but Luke was already shaking his head and trying to back away from the window.

“Because he doesn’t want me. He’s moving on and I have no right to try and interfere with that.”

Reid chuckled at him. “Bullshit pretty boy. That man is so in love with you, you’re all he can talk about.” The shocked look on Luke’s face was hilarious.

“But he…”

Reid was done. He was too tired and cranky for this kind of garbage right now. He grabbed Luke’s arm and pulled him to the door before pushing him through it and following him in.

Grabbing Luke once more, ignoring the other man’s feeble escape attempts, and pulled him over to the table where the two dark-haired men were sitting.

He pushed Luke down into the chair beside Noah and turned to give Richard his best smile.

“Listen stud, you’re barking up the wrong tree.” He reached down and took Richard’s hand and pulled him to his feet. “Richard, right?”

The dark man nodded and then blushed a little and how fucking adorable was that? Adorable? Fuck he really was tired.

“You have that whole sweet and cute as a puppy thing going for you and from what I’ve seen, a really cute pout on the pretty mouth of yours but you’re wasting it.”

He swung around and pointed at Noah. “Even if that dork over there wasn’t blind as a bat right now, he still wouldn’t see you because his whole world is sitting there right beside him and it eclipses everything else. It wouldn’t matter how gorgeous you are, it would be lost on him.”

“Reid, what the fuck…?” Reid cut Noah off.

“Shut up film geek, and get your head out of your ass…” Reid turned his gaze to include Luke. “Both of you. And get this shit worked out before you come to your next appointment. I’m tired of listening to you guys whine about each other. I’m a selfish bastard and I don’t do this friend thing very well.”

He looked down to discover that he still had Richard’s hand in his and grinned at him. “So, sweetheart, while your obvious attributes are lost on Blindy McBlinderson over there, I can appreciate all of them.”

Richard looked at Reid and then at Luke and Noah and then back at Reid. He looked the doctor up and down before slowly curling his lips into a flirty smile. “Yeah?”

“Yeah, and I bet you have a few more attributes I haven’t seen but would love the chance to appreciate.” There was that cute blush again. “Wanna have dinner with me?”

Richard nodded. “Yeah, I think I would.”

Reid nodded as well. “Great! Uh, one second.” He turned back to Luke and Noah to find them both gaping at him. “I’m not kidding you guys. I told Katie that you guys were the gay Bob and Kim and I meant it. I’m sorry I fucked with you, but you made it so easy and in case you haven’t noticed, I’m not exactly the picture of self-restraint.”

Noah grinned and nodded and Luke cocked an eyebrow at Reid before finally relenting and smiling at him.

“Yeah, you’re kind of a dick.”

Reid grinned at him. “Takes one to know one, Snyder.”

Noah almost choked on the soda he’d just been taking a drink of. “What are you, six?”

Reid laughed. “Nope, seven.” He looked up at Richard. “Let’s go eat.”

Richard smiled shyly at Luke and Noah. “Bye guys.”

“Yeah, bye guys.” He waved at them a little and turned to leave, pulling Richard behind him. As he did, he heard Luke sigh before speaking to Noah.

“I guess we need to talk.”

“Yeah, I guess we do.”

Reid smiled. He bet they were holding hands already.
